DEFINING THE PRODUCT AND VISION STRATEGY
Why am I doing this? - Gender bias is perpetuated by stereotypes in voice AI.
How am I doing this? - I'll work with a design thinking process to solve the problem.
What is it? - A voice AI that will replace Siri in Apple devices.
Who is it for? - Minors who are first time iPhone owners.
Where will it be used? - In Apple devices everywhere.
This was an independent research project. I spent 3 months reading, researching and analyzing material on gender bias, AI, and digital voice assistants.
Market Research - There are four big competitors in digital voice assistants.
User Research - I researched the demographic to ensure this would be feasible.
User Interviews - I interviewed children and and parents to insure there would be interest.
Contextual Inquiry - I observed community members and asked questions about their concerns.
Personas - By combining the information I gathered via research I was able to create a combination "family" persona.
User Journeys - I created two user journeys - one for the parents and one for the minor. These allowed me to see pain points and opportunities throughout the use of the service.
Analyzation - Research, research and more research allowed me to syphon information in a way that could be useful and impactful.
Brainstorm - Mind mapping and word vomits.
Strong Narrative - By creating a narrative with a user story and video I was able to create context for the audience.
User Flow - I focused on the very beginning of the flow - the purchase of an iPhone.
Sketch - Crappy sketches in my notebook.
Wireflow - Helps to realize how the interaction occurs.
Prototyping - Consider the needs of the user and how it would be used with little to no assistance.
Iteration - Change the design to accommodate all situations.
Brand Identity - It was important to have a fresh, hip and techy look for the logo.
TESTING AND VALIDATION
User testing - Three 11-year-olds were observed using the prototype.
Rated by criteria - The interest level was judged by a survey of questions.
Public Forum - I presented this to a public audience at a local library.
